Hi, I’m Genevieve. Welcome to my reusable menstrual pad (sanitary napkin) making resource page.
I made a simple pad sewing tutorial (it’s just over five minutes in length) that you can view on YouTube here.

You’ll need these supplies:
(Offered under CC0 [Creative Commons Zero] license so you can freely alter, remix, share, or sell this design.)
Scissors ✄┈┈
Needle 🪡
Thread 🧵
Soft, breathable fabric like cotton, flannel, or even fleece as long as it allows air and liquid to pass through and is comfortable against the body.
Absorbent middle layer: microfiber towel material 🩸⬜
Bottom layer: Water resistant material like pleather or mackintosh
Snaps (also called press buttons). Avoid metal snaps as they may rust over time.
Snap installation machine OR snaps that can be sewed on to the pad.
In the video, I use this set of snaps (affiliate link) that includes the installation plier device.
Care instructions PDF (print and cut in half for two copies instructions).
This design can be customized to your body and flow. Feel free to make the sanitary pad bigger or smaller, and to make shape adjustments. Those with heavy flow may want to experiment with sewing two layers of microfiber into the interior.

I suggest making a set of 5-10 pads so you have enough for each monthly cycle and a fresh pad to wear to allow the previously worn pads time to be soaked, washed, and fully air dried.
Happy pad-making!
